As you pay for additional shipments, after the first shipment which is included in your stud fee, it's critical to do everything you can to make the first one successful.

The mare should be prepared as if you were going to send her to the farm to be hand bred. She should be in excellent health and condition to facilitate successful conception. Studies have shown that mares that are slightly overweight have a higher rate of conception than mares who are underweight.

Breeding with shipped semen is management intensive compared to breeding by live cover. Timing and communication are critical.

When you or your veterinarian determine your mare's first day of heat, advise us immediately so we can get prepared to collect.

At this point your veterinarian will follow follicle progression by rectal palpation or ultrasound on a daily or every other day basis to determine the appropriate time to breed her.

When the mare is approximately 24 hours from ovulating, contact us prior to 5 pm so that we may book the vet to collect the following morning. Our standard collection days are Monday through Friday. DO NOT administer any hormones to induce ovulation until after the semen has safely arrived and been checked by the Vet. A delay in shipping is always possible and you cannot prevent the mare ovulating once you have administer the hormone.

DO NOT open the container when the semen arrives. After the vet arrives and the mare is prepared and ready to inseminate, the container can be opened.

Remove one packet (dose) of the semen from the shipping container and IMMEDIATELY re-seal the second dose back in the container.

Inseminate the mare with the entire dose. DO NOT warm the semen prior to putting it in the mare! The use of hormones to stimulate ovulation (HCG or Ovuplant) should be considered at this point for the best chance of conception.

In some cases the mare will not ovulate as predicted, even when hormone therapies are used. The second dose is available for use the following day to maximize the likelihood of conception.

Return the shipping container IMMEDIATELY after the second dose has been used.

Have your mare pregnancy checked 16 to 18 days after she was inseminated, and notify us immediately on her pregnancy status.

Please realize that we have no control over Fedex, Greyhound or the Airlines. Shipping is not risk free. We do everything in our power to use the couriers that provide the best service but even so, Mother Nature can still bring on a spring storm.
